Attachment: April 24, 2003 Draft Minutes minutes status: approved approved at meeting of UCAP Minutes for meeting held on 05/08/2003 UNIVERSITY COMMITTEE ON ACADEMIC POLICY Minutes May 8, 2003 Members present: Bridget Behe, Steve Dilley, Jim Gallagher, Patricia Mullan, Folu Ogundimu, Georgia Padonu, Sharon Senk, Gary Stollak, Winston Wilkinson, Maija Zile, June Youatt. 1. The agenda was approved as written. 2. The minutes from the April 24 meeting were approved as written. 3. Comments from the Chairperson: The interim report developed by the sub-committee on Academic Integrity and supported by the full committee was forwarded to Acting President and Provost Simon, along with a cover memorandum requesting her assistance in locating electronic materials in one readily accessible location, possibly the University website, with links to the Faculty and Student Handbooks. She also thanked committee members for assembling after finals to bring closure to items 5 and 6 on the agenda. 4. The Assistant Provost had no comments. 5. A request was made for UCAP to consider recommending moratoria be placed on admission to Art & Art History and Religious Studies. A motion was made by Gallagher and seconded by Senk that UCAP recommend that the faculty and administration of Art & Art History and Religious Studies are given until March 15, 2004, for study of the future of their respective departments before a moratorium would be considered by UCAP. The motion was approved unanimously. 6. The request to establish the School of Construction Management and the Built Environment was also before the committee. Many committee members expressed frustration and dismay in the lack of detailed information presented to the committee regarding discussion with faculty and students. The committee was unanimous in their desire for documentation of appropriate consultation (showing when, with whom, and range of opinions) with students and faculty to more thoughtfully consider the implications of requests before the committee. A motion to approve the request was made by Dilley and seconded by Senk and approved.
