2. The Minutes of the April 13, 2006 meeting were approved with no changes. 3. Comments from the Associate Provost: Associate Provost Youatt thanked the committee for all it has accomplished year, stating that she often gives UCAP as an example of how governance committees can work well to consider issues and get things accomplished. 4. Comments from the Chairperson: Putnam reported on the several items from Academic Council meeting of April 25 that involved UCAP: establishment of undergraduate minors, additional majors for undergraduates, and the recommendation to close the College of Human Ecology. He also reported that Academic Council voted to accept the Final Report of the Working Group for the Improvement of Undergraduate Education, with ECAC to move forward with action items from the report. Putnam also thanked committee members for their work this year and commended Associate Provost Youatt and Robin Pline for enabling UCAP to be such a well functioning committee. 5. MSU CLEP Policy: A letter from an undergraduate student raising concerns about MSU’s policy for granting academic credit for CLEP exams was discussed. MSU’s current policy grants credit for CLEP exams only before students matriculate. The student’s letter argued that credit should rightfully be offered after students are enrolled at MSU as well. After a brief discussion of the issues, the issue of CLEP policy was placed on the agenda for the first UCAP meeting in the fall, with Associate Provost Youatt’s office being asked to compile background materials. A subcommittee to consider the policy issues will be formed at that UCAP meeting. 6. Athletic Council Report: Dennis Banks, UCAP representative on Athletic Council explained that, as a result of conversations between Athletic Council and ECAC, he would be making regular reports on Athletic Council activities to UCAP, with the UCAP chair relaying these reports to ECAC. Banks explained the composition and functions of Athletic Council and noted that he serves on the subcommittee that deals with issues of academic compliance. He offered to arrange to have Associate Athletic Director Jim Pignataro attend a UCAP meeting in the fall to explain issues of academic support and compliance for athletes. 7. Round Table Discussion. Sharon Senk expressed appreciation to the committee for their ability to work well as she ends her term. She also inquired about the Fall Break discussion that was tabled at our last meeting. Putnam stated that he and Kyle Martin would be doing additional information gathering to enable UCAP to be proactive in moving the Fall Break issue forward in the fall. 8. Elections of 2006-2007 UCAP officers.
