from February 26, 2015. Comments from the Chairperson Chairperson Taggart stated that
the policy on the Integrity of Scholarship and Grades was approved by Faculty
Senate. However the Grief Absence Policy
was not approved by the University Committee on Faculty Affairs (UCFA) because
they had some concerns. Chairperson
Taggart requested that UCFA draft language with alternative suggestions for the
parts of the policy with which they were not in agreement with. UCUE will discuss their concerns at the next
meeting. Comments from the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education Associate Provost Estry
stated that most of the concerns that UCFA had regarding the Grief Absence
Policy are covered in other policies that currently exist on campus. Request for a Moratorium on Admission to the Undergraduate Specialization in Gender and Global Change (Action Item) Steve Kautz, Associate Dean,
College of Social Science The committee unanimously granted voice to Associate Dean Kautz. Associate Dean Kautz stated that
this moratorium is being requested in anticipation of discontinuation of the
specialization in Gender and Global Change. Per University policy, a program
must first be placed in moratorium before it is discontinued. There are currently two students in the
specialization and they will be allowed to complete it. Students interested in gender and global
change issues have alternative options, such as the concentration in Gender and
Global Change in the Global and Area Studies major. Also, the College of Arts and Letters has
both a major and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. Voice was withdrawn from Associate
Dean Kautz. The following motion passed unanimously. The University Committee on
Undergraduate Education duly considered and endorsed the request for a
moratorium on admission to the Undergraduate Specialization in Gender and
Global change. Request to Change the Admission as a Junior in the College of Arts and Letters to Admission to the College in the College of Arts and Letters (Action Item) Beth Judge, Assistant Dean,
College of Arts and Letters The committee unanimously granted voice to Assistant Dean Judge. Assistant Dean Judge stated
that this request is related to the change in University policy with the option
to admit students to a major at 28 credits, effective Fall, 2015. Students not ready to declare a major at 28
credits can remain in “no preference” status until they reach 56 credits. No staffing issues are anticipated. Voice was withdrawn from Assistant
Dean Judge. The following motion passed unanimously. The Committee on Undergraduate Education duly considered and endorsed the request to change the admission as a junior in the College of Arts and Letters to admission to the college in the College of Arts and Letters.
Roundtable Abraham Wheeler asked if UCLL
was still in existence. Dr. Estry
commented that UCLL has served its primary function, and the committee no
longer exists. Meeting adjourned at 10:35
am. Respectfully submitted by Lynne Frechen.
